Ghost story competition

We are seeking the best Yorkshire ghost stories about haunted houses and haunted places. The winning entry in our short story competition will be published in the October 2010 issue and will also receive a £200 cash prize, a signed copy of ‘The Writer’s ABC Checklist’ and a year’s subscription to the magazine. 
Several runners up will also win the opportunity to appear in print plus copies of the above book and a magazine subscription. 
The spooky tales will be judged by author Lorraine Mace and the editor of The Yorkshire ridings magazine Anthony Skinner. Lorraine Mace, who is the co author of ‘The Writer’s ABC Checklist’, has written several books both fictional and factual. She is a columnist with ‘Writing Magazine’ and her work has been published in five countries. She writes fiction for the women’s magazine market, is a writing competition judge, a tutor for ‘Writers Bureau’ and the author of ‘The Greatest Moving Abroad Tips in the World’. 
 
Competition rules: 
1. All entries must be typed on one side of A4 and be double spaced. 
2. Each entry must be no more than 1,000 words. 
3 Multiple entries are accepted. 
4. The material must be the original work of the stated author and previously unpublished in a print format. 
5 The story can be based on fact or purely fiction, but MUST be set in Yorkshire. 
6 We regret we are unable to return manuscripts so please keep a copy of your story. 
7 By entering the competition, you are agreeing to allow your story to be published in the magazine. 
8 The judges’ decision is final and we cannot enter into correspondence regarding the judging process. 
9 The story must not contain any material that may be classed as defamatory to any business or place. If you are writing about a premises or place owned by someone else you must first get permission from the owner. 
10. The winner will receive a £200 cash prize, a signed copy of The Writer’s ABC Checklist, a year’s subscription to the magazine and have their story published in the October 2010 edition. 
11. Entries must be clearly marked Ghost story competition and sent to Yorkshire ridings magazine, Oyston Mill. Strand Road. Preston PR1 8UR or emailed to info@yorkshireridingsmagazine.co.uk.
12. Entries must include the author’s name, address, telephone number and email. The closing date for the competition is July 31st 2010, but the judging will be ongoing so please get your entries in as soon as you can.
